FROM THE DRAWING ROOM #1

This blog post was initially published on Friday 9th of September in my newsletter ‘From The Drawing Room’ - if you’d like to keep updated on my work you can subscribe HERE

I thought I'd start things off with a fun short comic! These two characters were last minute additions to the first issue of Superish Comics and I really enjoyed using them again here. They don't have names yet so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Some Books

The summer has been great for having more time to read, these were two stand outs that I've read.

Adorning the Dark - This is a fantastic book on "Community, Calling, and the Mystery of Making." I love Andrew Peterson's music and as a Christian artist it was fascinating to hear how he sees his creative calling and his thoughts on using art to reflect and enjoy God. Well worth a read!

The Scarlet Pimpernel - It's no secret that I love masked heroes with hidden identities like Batman and Zorro. It's a great trope that lives on in the myriad of superhero stories we see today. The Scarlet Pimpernel is the distant grandfather to all these stories, and I loved it! I would describe it as Jane Austen crossed with Poldark, crossed with Batman.

An Artist

Benjamin Schipper is a comic artist and illustrator. I love his style' great fusion of old and new. He has really unique characters that speak in interesting and often quite poetic ways. He has a new graphic novel coming out in March called Joe Death, and having read the first few chapters it looks like something special! Go and check him out!

Thank You!

As I wrap up I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you who have subscribed to this newsletter! It means a lot and I really hope I haven't wasted your time.
