FROM THE DRAWING ROOM #2

Hello again!
I've got lots of cool stuff to show you all this month so let's get cracking.
Recently I've been working on a second issue of Superish Comics! It features all of the same characters as the first comic in brand new adventures. My favourite to draw so far has been the Arthur Wise story called 'Every Cloud'. I'm working through the initial colours at the moment so I thought I would share some of the process. The above examples are the first layers of flat colours, which I can then go over with effects and lighting to give everything depth and weight.
Making Superish Comics has been a great ongoing project to practice my visual storytelling skills. I'm looking forward to getting the second issue finished and into your hands!
Superman Comics
After finally watching the Superman and Lois show that came out recently, I've been on a Superman high. One of my warmup drawings last month was this recreation of the man of steel's first ever appearance in Action Comics #1.
I've also been diving back into some of my favourite Superman stories and thought I'd share them.
Superman: For All Seasons
Beautifully painted artwork, and a classic story. My favourite thing about this comic is that it's unashamedly heartfelt, and Superman is drawn like a great big thumb.
Secret Identity
This is an alternate reality where Superman is a fictional character, until a boy called Clark Kent wakes up one day with all of Superman's powers. I can't think why this one resonated with me at all.
All-Star Superman
Grant Morrison's wonderfully wacky encapsulation of Superman's world and his impact on humanity. A great fusion of weird comic concepts and poignant human drama.
Featured Artist: Morgan Girvin
I've known Morgan Girvin for four years. We lived together throughout the whole of university and it has been a privilege to see him go from strength to strength with his illustration work. He's currently carving out a name for himself with these amazingly detailed posters. I think they're truly breath-taking and each one he makes is better than the last.
Morgan is the closest thing I have to a colleague and there aren't many projects that I've undertaken that haven't been improved by his keen eye and design sensibilities.
He's also one of this newsletters subscribers. Hi Morgan!
You can, and should, check out more of his work at https://morgangirvin.com/
Thank You!
Once again I want to say thank you to all of you who have subscribed to this newsletter and for being interested in my work. It means a lot! See you next month!
